I am a person who is difficult to label. I have a rebellious spirit, gained through life’s bitter hardships and extreme spiritual poverty. There is a yearning accumulated in my heart, an explosive desire to break through, to resist, to struggle, to contradict myself. I am deeply grateful for the career choice I made. I feel the true meaning of art may lie in freedom of the spirit and soul.

I respect, even cherish tradition. In the meanwhile, it is essential to express my true feelings about life. I believe each artist's own cultural roots are important. The course of one’s life journey is important. But the most important of all is to discover and show those deepest, rarest, most sensitive and hidden things concealed in one’s heart. My Chinese painting has veered off of traditional quite early. During the process, I have grasped two fundamentals. One is the basic roots of the Chinese culture, not in form but in the intrinsic spirit. To the Western culture, I sought to genetically connect and activate, thus graft and create a new life. My present creations have broken boundaries of art expression forms. My paintings are sculptural; my sculptures are painterly. “Follow heart's desires, without overstepping the lines of rectitude", that is the essence of art.

The theme of deconstruction represents the essential course of life. I have been drawn to the philosophical significance of clayware. Its relationship with life and time is best embodied by the process of fragmentizing. Clayware shattering is inevitable, while being intact is accidental. After breaking, I reconstruct, as per the infinite cycle of life. The button stands for the threshold between one’s natural and social personalities, the critical point of freedom and astriction, the divide between standardization and formalization versus the complete liberation of human nature back to its origin. The cross symbolizes the interlaced inner of human being, thus the spirit, which is what supports and gives meaning to life. My entire artistic expression is the flesh, the buttons and crosses represent the spirit, I metaphorize the soul.
